The Walking Challenge – Day 7: Sunshine And Solace In Dulwich.
So how did you get on, today?
Starting the day off this morning with a Dynamic Power Walking class was great and the sun here in Dulwich was just whispering her warmth to us. (My two lovely ladies and I).
Christine, one of the ladies, makes the most delicious Sorrel drink I have ever tasted and this drink helped me with a challenging cough a few weeks back. Ann-Marie is a florist with that extra touch of design and beauty. Her flowers say everything you would like to say and more. It’s that added extra touch that both ladies apply to their craft, which is a stunning accolade of who they are.
This morning’s walk was about preparing for the day ahead and walking in solace with a focus on the breath. We started by warming up the feet, using a concept started by the incredible Marie Jose Blom-Lawrence of the SmartSpine (TM) products.
Starting the day by stretching the feet and encouraging more articulation in the bones of the feet is great. In some of my experiential work, I have discovered that (the exercises whether with the arch tubbies or a soft ball or tennis ball) for those of us that have a pronation of the feet (or fallen arches), after the foot exercise, the feet are more supinated and for those of us that have a supination of the feet (or high arches), the feet are more pronated. The feeling of being more grounded (for those with high arches) or lighter in the feet(for those of us with fallen arches) is often the response, I get from clients.
So as the walk approaches the hour mark, the real challenge begins.
Mould walking, into your lifestyle as you move towards a more balanced body and do so with the following two practical tips.
xlol
Tip 1
Put your walk in your diary. If you factor things that you enjoy doing into your daily planner, then you are more likely to follow through, right?
Unlike in the water challenge, this time, I decided against a diary, but that’s more of a personal choice. Do keep something visual on your wardrobe door or fridge that reminds you of just how great you are doing. “You Rock with a big R,” could be something you may want to see everyday to give yourself a thumbs up in preparation for the day. These recent and very real global and financial challenges have affected even the most positive amongst us and so it’s important to remind oneself of the positive’s.
Tip 2
Use a vision board/paper. Sitck some pictures of your favourite walks or parks in a place that you are likely to see it everday and this can be a real plus. You may consider pictures of your favourite Nike trainers or accessories, pictures of a walking mentor/ walking specialist/- like Wendy Bumberger for instance who does so much for the industry and is a power house of knowledge when it comes to this particular activity.
Recently, I started using the equivalent of a vision board. And all it is, is an A3 sized paper stuck onto the front of my wardrobe door with some blue tack. A positive affirmation and some lovely pictures adorn the wardrobe and I also have another page, which is my schedule for the week, in pencil. I now have something more visual to look at and in larger print (than my gorgeous iphone calendar) that reminds me of what I have done during the week.
As a startup business, it’s very important for me to have a visual measure of my clients and the activities that I have done during the week,so that when anything untoward or disappointing encrouches, then my visual reinforcer lets me know it’s all good
and that here is the evidence.
So more on the way
…….video and audio Podcasts perhaps?
Until then……
Many blessings.
