The Movement Challenge – Day 2: A question of Feet

How did you all get on with thinking about yesterday’s question?

I have to admit, I was much more conscious today on waking up and thinking about my moving body. I have been moving quite a lot today and so have some of my clients, Ann-Marie, Chrissy and Enorr. A big thumbs up to you ladies, for the amazing work you did today, with core stability. :-) x lol.x

Thank you also, to everyone that commented and answered yesterday’s questions. I particularly loved the references to breathing, meditation, hands in prayer position, stretching and connecting to the core (something I will talk about in a few days :-) ) and to a lovely response from a dear friend, Estelle, who is thinking about how she rises in the mornings after reading the superb comments, yesterday. lol.x

It occurred to me that there are some health related issues to point out, when getting out of  bed in the mornings. So here are some tips, before I ask the next question of the day.

Tip 1
Take your time, getting up.

Why?
You have been lying down for a considerable amount of time and on rising, if you feel dizzy, then  postural drop or postural hypotension is what has caused this. This condition often makes me think of dehydration (water again, folks)  or hypovolaemia first as both conditions lead to a drop in the Blood pressure. Your kidneys are the beautifully bean-shaped viscera that monitor fluid balance, but the amazing phenomena that is specific to fluid balance is the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), a hormonal system that regulates the blood pressure and fluid balance. So basically if you are dehydrated or have a dizzy spell, that split second on rising, is enough for the kidney’s superb call to action that activates a whole chain of events to bring you back to balance. Amazing isn’t it?  :-)

Tip 2
Have some Breakfast.

Why?
The first thing we all do on breaking our fast (breakfast) for the day,  is get out of bed. So it follows then that addressing our hunger and thirst will be part of our morning ritual too. This is one of the most important meals of the day because prior to breakfast, this is the longest period we tend to go without eating or drinking something. And then once we have breakfast, our bodies will be more inclined to move in a harmonious way, to support us for the day ahead. :-)

Tip 3
Move with and find Balance during your day.

Remember that we are all aiming to move towards a more balanced body and lifestyle by subtle changes we make to our eating and drinking habits and to our patterns of movement. :-)   So do eat well and drink plenty of water during the day. 2 litres is what I aim for daily and I highly recommend it to you. Having some time to yourself to just breathe and relax during a busy day is vital too. lol.x

Tip 4
Avoid rising from bed with your head and neck, first!

Why?
Remember that you lovely head is one third of your body weight. Yes it is and so, when rising and lifting that gorgeous heaviness, neck muscles such as the Sternocleidomastoic (SCM), the scalenes, the  sub-occipitals and  the upper trapezius, get strained and this can lead to the continuous tension you feel in your neck and shoulders as well as the potential for causing headaches. Look how close your neck and shoulders are to your head. Do take care of yourselves. lol.x :-)

So moving on then, :-) to today’s question.

Question 2:
How do you move your feet, when you walk about in the morning?

Think about this for a moment. Also, think about what you put on your feet first thing in the morning or when you get up. :-) x I look forward to discussing this and seeing your comments,  as feet are a particularly interesting topic.

Liz's Feet

First it is necessary to stand on your own two feet. But the minute a man finds himself in that position, the next thing he should do is reach out his arms.
