A Week Of Water: Day 7 – And Is The Challenge Over?

Can I almost hear that sigh of relief or have the last 7 days been an interesting dalience with water and fluids? :-)

Well, our cousins across the water are on Day 2 of this challenge and it will be interesting to see what the comments are and their experiences over the coming days in order to make some sort of comparison. :-) x

A grand total of 18.2 litres over the last 7 days. Hmmh…not bad at all, as I move into a week of activity with Dance, Pilates and movement. :-) and the machinery and toys in the Studio become as sturdy as I have become pliable within my newfound hydrated body. :-) x lol.

Now for the last topic this week, which is fevers and/or heat. As you may have gathered, I have touched on a very few general topics this week about how nourishing water is for the body and I could go on and on, however, there are other subjects waiting for me to get my fingers and brain moving on. :-)

A fever is defined as a condition in which the body exceeds a normal temperature. The normal temperature in a person can be anything from 36 degrees Celsius-37 degrees Celsium or 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit-99 degrees Fahrenheit.

Pyrexia is one of the clinical terms used to describe a fever and comes from the greek Pyretos meaning fire and Febrile is another word also used. A fever is the body’s response to a potential invasion of bacteria or a virus.Once the body’s immune system pick up that an invader has penetrated their territory, they immediately surround it, causing an immune and inflammatory response that drives the body temperature up.

Early in the week, I discussed the ‘almond-shaped hypothalamus’ and it’s role in maintaining equilibrium or balance in the body. The thermo-regulator is within the hypothalamus and it’s job is to monitor and regulate the body’s temperature from the information that it receives back through the body’s various systems.

So what the response to an invader is, especially potential bacterial or viral infection, is to make the environment so hot and uncomfortable, that it’s difficult for bacteria or viruses to survive. With an increase in body, temperature, one is more likely to get flushed, hot, sweaty and dehydrated. There is an increase in the heart rate, muscle tone and shivering – a physiological response to the body’s perception of being cold, whilst the thermo-regulator resets itself. So extra water and fluids are highly reccommended here. :-)

Rigors can also occur in extreme temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius or 103 degrees Fahrenheit. Anyone affected will often say how cold they are and may really not thank you for trying to remove any excess clothing. :-(

In children this can lead to a condition known as ‘febrile convulsions’ where a child will fit as a result of this extreme temperature. If you are in such a situation, please contact your GP/Doctor and in the interim, gently remove any excess clothing. :-) x

So let me know how you got on with your week of water and what you learned from your water diary this week.

Until next week, enjoy drinking and nourishing your body continuously……

Many blessings

……and to end this week of water with Peggy Lee singing ‘Fever’ :-) xlol
