A Week Of Water: Day 6 -The Day After The Night Before, More Water Please!

So Day 5/6 for some of us right? Or perhaps you fell off the wagon? :-)

Never mind if you did, I’m still rooting for you and you can start again tomorrow or on Monday if you wish, I will still be with you in spirit. :-) xlol. How did you get on with your 2 litre water challenge today?

Did anyone notice just how beautiful it was today :-) (the sun was shining here in London and it was just deliciously warm) and just how thirsty that made me and many other’s?

Or was it a case of the day after the night before and just reaching for that large glass of water to quench your parched lips without moving or dancing to the rhythm of the pounding in your head?lol.x :-)

Whether it was the alcohol or the heat, moving or dancing, I have a few things to impart on the topic of alcohol and tomorrow, I’ll discuss heat and fevers.

ETOH the abbreviation for alcohol given by medics and nurses :-) also has some other interesting definitions I discovered, whilst doing some research today. One is Ethyl Alcohol as mentioned and the other abbreviation is ……Extremely Trashed And Hammered.Though I did wander whether And could be substituted for On? :-) Well I still laughed my socks off when I read this as it’s so poignant about the effects of too much alcohol. :-) xlol.

Though I’m hardly in favour of ‘drinking’ especially when the outcomes are fatal. :-(

The underlying fact here, is that alcohol is a diuretic, which means that your body will get rid of fluid quite rapidly, so one is more inclined to use the ladies or the gents and as you are less likely to drink water, then whatever water is available in the surrounding organs, will be used :-( .

The reason for this is that the liver can only metabolise a small amount of the alcohol per hour and the catch 22 here is that it needs water to do it :-( , so headaches, cramps, dizziness, nausea are all side effects of too much alcohol. Also, that craving for food, is to do with the glucose in the alcohol that drives the pancreas slightly doolaly in over-producing to bring the sugar levels down. And with that comes, a feeling of lethargy, then more carbohydrates are needed to hype up the energy levels again and so hunting for the nearest midnight snack is inevitable. :-)

The ADH (anti-diuretic hormone) which is released by the Pituitary gland is suppressed by the central nervous system (CNS) because of the impact that alcohol has on the CNS and then this causes numerous visits to the bathroom as well as changes in behaviour. Or a lack of inhibitions, basically. :-) xlol.

This fantastic synopsis on this website is a worthy read.

If you were enjoying yourself last night or indeed you are considering going out dancing tonight, do pace yourself and make sure that you drink plenty of water when you get in from your night out. I feel it’s hardly practical for me to wax lyrical about the importance of drinking water, whilst drinking, pardon the pun, here. :-)

Tomorrow, I will give you my weeks daily water figures and talk about heat and fevers and the importance of drinking plenty of healthy fluids and water.

Until then…… relax with this. :-) x

Many blessings
