A Week Of Water: Day 4 – A Sprig Of Mint & Water
And so the challenge is getting easier on Day 4, isn’t it?
Well, my lovely friend Anu
, in Mysore, India informs me that it’s absolutely sweltering in Mysore right now and she is replenishing and rejuvenating with lots of cold water to which she adds a sprig of mint and a slice of lime or a tsp of lemon juice. A neat recipe for people that are challenged by the taste of plain water. lol
Thank you Anu
x
I must add that this lady’s meals are just something else and when you are next in India, do visit Mysore – (Yoga city and home to the incredible Sri Pattabhi Jois – Guruji , his daughter Saraswati and her son Sharath) to feed your body and mind at Anu’s Bamboo hut (I can personally vouch for the wonderful vegetarian meals here
) and the Internet Cafe run by her husband Ganesh – absolutely wonderful friends
x
My Record so far:
Day 1: 2.4L( 3 large mugs of Mint Tea, 1 large mug of Decaf Coffee (lol)x, 1 pint Glass of water – sipped gradually over the day, 1 glass of home-made lemonade
)x
Day 2: 2.75L (1 large mug of hot apple juice, 2 large mugs of mint tea, 1 large mug of Decaf Coffee, 1 x Pint and a half Glass of water, 1 large mug of soup
)x
Day 3: 2.7L (2 x Large Mugs of Mint Tea, 2 x Pints of water -paced over the day between clients, 1 x large mug of Sorrel drink and 1 x large mug of hot apple juice.
)x
You may have noticed that I do love my Mint Tea?
x Well, I have found it to be one of the more soothing drinks, it can be an acquired taste as a friend of mine Sue found out, when visiting me in the studio last week
x Add a teaspoon of honey until your taste buds have adjusted. Mostly, my experience with mint and Peppermint tea has been that it’s great for soothing stomach ache, trapped wind, nausea and of course it freshens the breath. Fresh is best of course and occasionally I resort to boiling some fresh mint in water on the hob:-) and always end up saying to myself, ‘I need to do this more often.’

The digestive system and the gut sometimes needs a little help, especially if you are amongst a group of people that are constantly on the move,
running from one client to the next and ‘eating on the run.’ Though I would recommend eating during a peaceful moment and enjoying your food, I’m also aware that the practicalities of people’s jobs make that a little challenging at times
Finding the right balance is an art form that is a work in progress for all of us
Think about this, for a moment: from the mouth to the gut, to the ‘butt’
your food has to go through a 9 metre distance according to this article, which also suggests that 14 million people are challenged with constipation in the UK, so I’m curious to know how that would translate worldwide?
The intestines alone are a massive 18-25 feet/ 5.5-7.6 metres in length – isn’t that just amazing? So my breakfast has a long 2 hour journey on it’s way to providing my body with all the good nutrients it need,s as it absorbs the great and the good and then gets rid of the rest.
It’s important to open your bowels at least once a day and drinking more water or fluids will definitely improve your bowel pattern. Constipation is caused by all the fluid being absorbed by the colon or large intestine as the remnants of what no longer serves you passes down the intestinal tract, hardening up as it goes – and let’s face it, making it slightly difficult to open your bowels or to do a ‘number two’
x lol. Increasing the fibre (potatoes, brown rice, brown bread, bran, etc) in your diet and eating more fruit helps to improve your bowel pattern.
Of course in times of stress some people can get ‘Diarrhoea’ or Constipation, both of which fall under the category of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. In either condition, I completely endorse increasing your fluid intake. With Diarhoea, the amount of electrolytes that are lost can be alarming and so must be replaced. If you are prone to any of these conditions, do have a chat with your dietician/nutritionist and your nurse, GP/Doctor.
Onwards with the challenge and leave a comment on your experiences.
Have a great day today.

Liz,
Thank-you for all of this great info! Digestive health is SO important! A HUGE percentage of sypmtoms that people experience in all areas of health can be taken right back to the health of the bowels.
