What is the moral of this Story? – Hee-Haw, The Donkey.
Today, the husband of a wonderful friend of mine told me a story about a donkey and it’s owner. Give or take a few embellishments from me, of course
I thought it would be nice to share this with you, so here it is:
There was a man who was walking along a mountain road with his beloved donkey (who had a hat on his head) in the extreme heat, when suddenly the donkey, swayed and fell down in a ditch near the side of the mountain. The donkey hee-hawed his poor head off (and his hat) in disbelief!!!
The man was so distraught and tried pulling on the rope to get the donkey up and out of the ditch, but to no avail.
The man then sat down on the ground after the 100th time of trying and wondered what to do next. He was exhausted. He thought about the heat and about how his beloved donkey would possibly starve or dehydrate to death if he didn’t do something quickly.
So he looked around and noticed some rubble near by and decided that perhaps if he buried the donkey alive, this would save his beloved animal from a slow and painful death and this would be a quicker way to the donkey’s end.
As he piled the dirt and threw it over the donkey in the ditch, the animal shook off the dirt, stubbornly
He kept yelling at the donkey – ‘look it’s for your own good,’ ‘do you want to die painfully?’
It would have been very funny at this point of course, if the donkey had replied and said, ‘no of course not, you twit, can’t you see I’m all about survival? And I happen to prefer stepping on dirt rather than being covered in it, thank you very much.”
……anyway, I digress…..
Eventually, the dirt was piled so high that the donkey hee-hawed his hind legs out of there
And the man was so relieved and happy to have rescued his donkey Hee-haw from the ditch. The man and his donkey then continued on their journey as if nothing bizarre had happened.
If per chance, I met them on the way, I would have tapped the side of my nose and winked as I walked past. You know, just between you and me.
What do you think the moral of this story is?
Many blessings.x
“Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it.”
Bill Cosby.

I think it has something to do with helping others help themselves – he gave the donkey the soil that the donkey could then climb up.
